Maybe, depending upon the size and scope of budget cuts coming out of the legislature next year. The State faces a huge budget deficit and one place legislators have looked for savings is in the court system.
On Wednesday, we attended a luncheon where the Presiding Judge of Hennepin County Family Court updated attorneys on what to expect in the future. And it doesn’t look pretty. At best, we will see a family court system struggling with increased caseloads and reduced funding. It is possible that we could even see further reductions (or god forbid, even the elimination) of the Family Court Services Department – a department that provides testing and evaluation services to people in the family court system.
These budget cuts will likely impact both attorneys and participants in the year ahead. We will update you as more information becomes available.
